Get on The Air Quickly with the AR-146! I. To Program Memory Channels: The AR-146 and AR-446 have 40 memory channels plus a CALL channel. The memory channels are numbered 1-40. To program a frequency in memory you must be in VFO mode (with no "M" in the display). If you are in memory mode you can enter VFO mode by pressing the "VFO" key. Use the frequency selector knob to select the frequency you want to store. You may make large frequency steps (for faster tuning) by pressing the "MHz" key and then rotating the frequency knob. To return to your normal frequency step hit the "MHz" key again. NOTE: The radios ships with a factory default frequency step of 10 kHz. You may need to reprogram this if you are trying to access a channel that requires a 5 kHz step (such as 146.895 MHz). To do this you must be in VFO mode (no "M" on the display). Press "VFO" to select this mode. Press and hold the "F" key until you hear a beep and the "F" indicator in the display begins to beep. Press the "SHFT" key while the "F" indicator is blinking. The current frequency step (10.0 kHz) will show in the display. Rotate the tuning knob until the display says "05.0" kHz, then press the "F" key again to save the step. You are now in 5 kHz step mode. Once you have the proper frequency selected you may turn the repeater offset on, if needed. To do this hit the "SHFT" key. A minus sign will be displayed, indicating that a negative offset has been selected. To toggle between a negative offset, positive offset, and no offset hit the "SHFT" key repeatedly. ODD SPLITS: To program an odd offset you must be in VFO mode (no "M" on the display). To enter VFO mode press the "VFO" key. Press and hold the "F" key. A beep will sound and the "F" indicator blink. Press the "VFO" key again while the "F" indicator is blinking. The current offset is shown in the display ("00.600" for the AR-146and "05.000" for the AR-446). Rotate the tuning knob until you get the offset you desire. You may program an offset of up 39.995 MHz. Press "F" to save the offset. If you also want to program a CTCSS tone into the memory turn the tone on by pressing the "TONE" button. By pressing "TONE" repeatedly you can toggle between no CTCSS, tone encode, and tone encode plus tone decode. To change the tone frequency press and hold the "F" key. A beep will sound and the "F" indicator on the display will blink. While the "F" indicator is still flashing press the "TONE" key. The currently selected CTCSS tone frequency will show on the display. Use the tuning control to select the tone you want, then press "F" to save the tone. Once you have the frequency, offset, and tone you want you may program this information into memory. Press the "F" key. An "M" will show in the display, as well as a memory channel number. Use the tuning control to select the memory number that you want to save to. Then press "MR" to save the memory. II. Programming the CALL Channel To program the CALL channel you must be in VFO mode (with no "M" in the display). To save the selected frequency, offset, and tone as the CALL channel press the "F" key. The "F" indicator on the display will light. Press the "CALL" button while the indicator is still on. The information is now saved.
